We are delighted to share that the research paper titled “Affective State Recognition in Online Learning: A Deep Learning Approach with Data Augmentation” by Ashwitha Devasya, under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Abel, has been officially accepted for presentation at the IEEE International Conference on Semantic and Social Media Adaptation and Personalization (SMAP 2025), taking place at the University of Athens, Greece, in November 2025.
The paper focuses on leveraging deep learning techniques with data augmentation to improve the recognition of affective states in online learning environments. With the rapid growth of digital education, understanding learners’ emotions has become vital in enhancing engagement, personalization, and overall learning outcomes.
